Current Context: The first meeting of the India-Australia Joint Working Group (JWG) on Cyber Security Cooperation was held recently.

  • India was represented by Paulomi Tripathi, Director (Oceania) in the Ministry of External Affairs and Australia was represented by Rachel James, Special Advisor, Cyber Affairs and Critical Technology at Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
  • The JWG on Cyber Security Cooperation is set up under the framework of arrangement on cyber and cyber enabled critical technology cooperation between both the nations with an aim to implement a 2021-2025 plan of action under the framework.
  • The dignitaries discussed enhancing security for critical and confidential data associated with the 5G network and IoT.
  • They also agreed to enhance cooperation in the multilateral fora and assured eachother to share data related to cybersecurity, legislation and national cyber strategies.
  • They discussed issues related to the emerging technologies in the cyber sector and assured cooperation in the private sector and academia of both nations in order to increase skills in the cybersecurity domain.
