Indo-Thai CORPAT

Current Context: The 31st India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) commenced between the Indian Navy and the Royal Thai Navy.
Indo-Thai CORPAT
  • It is being conducted in the Andaman Sea from 9th June to 11th June 2021.
  • India is represented by the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Saryu, which is an indigenously built Naval Offshore Patrol Vessel.
  • Thailand is represented by HTMS Krabi, which is an Offshore Patrol Vessel.
  • The Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft from both navies are also participating in the exercise.
  • The main motto behind conducting CORPAT between India and Thailand is to enhance maritime linkages between them and secure international trade in this important part of the Indian Ocean.
  • The exercise will also help the Indian Navy’s efforts to consolidate interoperability and develop strong bonds of friendship with the Royal Thai Navy.
  • The CORPAT restricts unlawful activities like Illegal Unreported Unregulated (IUU) fishing, drug trafficking, maritime terrorism, armed robbery and piracy. It allows the exchange of information to prevent smuggling, illegal immigration, and SAR operations at sea.
