Union Cabinet approved MoC between India and Japan

Current Context: The Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi approved the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between India and Japan.

• The MoC was approved in the sector of Sustainable Urban Development.
• The MoC was signed between the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, India, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, Japan.
• The MoC between both nations will promote deep, long-term, and strong bilateral cooperation in the sector of Sustainable Urban Development.
• Due to the MoC, the cooperation in the areas like urban planning, affordable housing (including rental housing), smart cities development, sewerage, and water waste management, urban flood management, Transit-Oriented Development, Intelligent transport management system, Disaster Resilient Development, multimodal integration will take place.
• The MoC was signed for 5 years and will be renewed after 5 years.
