Current Context: India and the United States jointly launched a Hydrogen Task Force.

  • The hydrogen task force was launched under their Strategic Clean Energy Partnership (SCEP) to enhance India's energy security efforts.
  • The announcement for the same was made by US India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF).
  • The US-India Hydrogen Task Force was launched by the United States Department of Energy, Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and the USISPF.
  • The task force will be the representing platform for industries, stakeholders and will allow accessibility to the technology, innovative policy reforms and will allow recommendations as well.
  • The task force will fill the gap between research activities of both nations and will impart unique industry perspectives to research activities in order to achieve the goal of decarbonizing high-polluting industrial sectors and a clean and green planet.
  • Due to the hydrogen task force, the US and India will be able to solve the climate crisis by finding ways to scale up access, affordability, and deployment of critical hydrogen technologies.
