Current Context: The 14 tiger reserves in India have received Global Conservation Assured Tiger Standards (CA|TS) accreditation.

  • The announcement was made by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav.
  • India now has 51 Tiger reserves.
  • The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) recognized the ‘BaghRakshaks’ for their contributional work to protect tigers and forests.
  • The names of the tiger reserves in each state are: (1) Mudumalai and Anamalai Tiger Reserves (TN) (2) Bandipur Tiger Reserve (Karnataka) (3) Parambikulam Tiger Reserve (Kerala) (4) Sunderbans Tiger Reserve (West Bengal) (5) Dudhwa Tiger Reserve (Uttar Pradesh) (6) Valmiki Tiger Reserve (Bihar) (7) Pench Tiger Reserve (Maharashtra) (8) Satpura, Kanha and Panna Tiger Reserves (Madhya Pradesh) (9) Manas, Kaziranga and Orang Tiger Reserves (Assam).
  • The CA|TS was framed and launched in 2013 which is an apex tool accreditation by the global coalition of Tiger Range Countries (TRCs).
  • The CA|TS frames the standards for tiger conservational sites.
