Central Gov. launched 6 Technology Innovation Platforms

Current Context: The Government launched the six technology innovation platforms which will focus on the development of technologies for globally competitive manufacturing in the country.

  • While launching the platforms Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Prakash Javadekar mentioned innovation and high-end technology is musts and major ingredients for the development. He also mentioned that the utility created through innovation helps to generate wealth for the nation.
  • The platforms will bring India’s technical resources from all over parts and the concerned industry onto a single platform. This will facilitate to the identification of technology-based problems which are being faced by the domestic industry and public.
  • The technology innovation platforms will allow industries including OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers, start-ups, Tier 1,2, and 3 companies and raw material makers, domain experts/professionals, R&D institutions, and academia to provide suggestions, technology solutions, and opinions on issues involving the manufacturing industries.
  • Platforms will be the source of the exchange of information in the technology domain.
  • The 6 technology innovation platforms are developed by: Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), IIT Madras, International Center for Automotive Technology (iCAT), BHEL, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), and HMT in association with IISc Bangalore.
