GE, Intel partnered with SERB

Current Context: General Electric (GE) and Intel have partnered with SERB (Science and Engineering Research Board).

• They have partnered to conduct research work within the areas of companies interests.
• They have partnered under SERB’s new Fund for Industry Research Engagement (FIRE) initiative project.
• Under the FIRE project, industry and SERB invites calls for proposals for scientists and research experts so that they can perform research activities. The project helps to perform advancement in deep tech research activities in India.
• Under this partnership, GE and SERB will bring Rs 20 crore each for research activities in domains like Clean Energy, Affordable Healthcare and Clean Aviation.
• Firstly, the research problems under these 3 domains will be identified and then the call for proposals from researchers will be made. Then the best of the proposals will be selected and will further be implemented.

• About SERB: Its HQ is in New Delhi. It comes under the Department of Science and Technology. The statutory body is established under SERB Act 2008 of Parliament
