Current Context: The Green Sohra Afforestation Campaign was launched by Home Minister Amit Shah.

• It was launched at Sohra (Cherrapunji) at Meghalaya.
• The campaign was launched under the slogan of ‘Evergreen Northeast’, which highlights tree plantation and afforestation in NE India.
• The Green Sohra Afforestation Campaign will be jointly executed by Assam Rifles and the Meghalaya Government.
• The plantation drive will be executed under the campaign.
• In this regard, the Assam Rifles will adopt the entire locality of Cherrapunji.
• The Green Sohra Afforestation Campaign will help to enhance eco-tourism in the state and will ultimately help the tourism sector.
• Home Minister Amit Shah also inaugurated Greater Sohra Water Supply Scheme.
