Current Context: The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has released a report on International Migrant Workers.
ILO Report on International Migrant Workers
  • The report is titled ‘ILO Global Estimates on International Migrant Workers: Results and Methodology’.
  • As per the report, the international migrant workforce has increased to 169 million in 2019. There is a 5 million increase in the value of the total count compared to 2017. There is a rise of 3% in the number of the international migrant workforce compared to 2017.
  • In terms of youth migrant workers i.e. between age group 15-24 years, there is an increase of 2% compared to 2017.
  • Because of high youth employment rates, the share of youth among international migrant workers has increased to 10% in 2019 from 8.3 % in 2017.
  • The increase in migrants is due to the pandemic COVID-19.
