Current Context: The Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) announced to set up India’s first ‘green hydrogen’ plant at Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.
IOC to setup India’s 1st ‘Green hydrogen’ Plant in UP
  • This ‘green hydrogen’ plant will make India prepare for the future in terms of oil and cleaner forms of energy.
  • For this, the IOC will utilise 250 MW of electricity which it produces from renewable sources like solar power.
  • The electricity will be used to produce green hydrogen through the electrolysis process.
  • The Mathura unit of IOC was selected because of its virtue of proximity to TTZ (Taj Trapezium Zone).
  • The green hydrogen will reduce carbon-emitting fuels which are used in refineries to produce crude oil into diesel and petrol.
