Nepal signed Deal with India’s SJVNL

Current Context: Nepal has entered into a deal agreement with India’s hydropower major Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVNL) to develop a 679-megawatt hydropower project in the East part of Nepal.
Nepal signed Deal with India’s SJVNL
  • A deal of USD 1.3 billion was signed between the entities.
  • This will be the second mega venture undertaken by India in the neighbouring Himalayan nation after the USD 1.04 billion 900-MW Arun-3 hydroelectric projects.
  • The project will be situated between Sankhuwasabha and Bhojpur districts in eastern Nepal.
  • The 679-megawatt Lower Arun Hydropower project will be developed under the build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) model of SJVNL.
