Current Context: The government of Maharashtra launched the new Electric Vehicle Policy-2021.
New Electric Vehicle Policy-2021-- Maharashtra
  • The main moto of the new policy is to enhance the usage of Battery Electric Vehicles in the state. It was introduced with an aim to mark Maharashtra as the ‘topmost producer of battery-powered electric vehicles in India’.
  • It was announced by State Environment Minister, Aaditya Thackeray.
  • The policy is the revised version of the 2018 policy.
  • The state government aims that electric vehicles (EVs) to make up 10% of all new vehicle registrations by 2025.
  • Also, in this regard, the state government has launched Rs. 930 crore policy.
  • Also to attain the objective of EV and its target, the state government has announced that EVs will be exempted from road tax and registration charges.
  • Under the new EV policy 2021, incentives will be given to buyers of electric vehicles.
  • The incentives of Rs. 10,000 will be given to those who purchase two-wheelers, the incentive of Rs. 30,000 will be given for three-wheelers, the incentive of Rs. 1,50,000 will be given for four-wheelers and incentives of Rs 20 lakh will be given for e-buses.
  • The base incentive for electric vehicles is similar to that of two-wheelers i.e. Rs 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity.
  • Also, the ‘State EV Fund’ will be framed which will be used to promote EV adoption including providing incentives for EV infrastructure.
