6th BRICS Counter Terrorism Working Group Meet

Current Context: The 6th edition of the BRICS Counter Terrorism Working Group (CTWG) meeting was held in a virtual manner.

• The meeting was held under the Chairship of Mahaveer Singhvi, Joint Secretary for Counter-Terrorism, Ministry of External Affairs of India.
• The objective of the meeting was to finalize BRICS Counter Terrorism Action Plan.
• The action plan will be having specific measures to implement the BRICS Counter Terrorism Strategy which was adopted by BRICS Leaders in 2020.
• The BRICS Counter Terrorism Action Plan will enhance cooperation among BRICS nations to combat terrorism, misuse of the internet, border control.
• The action plan will work to eradicate financing of terrorism, enhancing capacity building, protection of soft targets and information sharing.
• The plan is said to be adopted at the BRICS National Security Advisors meeting.
