Current Context: The 6th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Agriculture Ministers Meeting was held in a virtual manner.
6th SCO Agriculture Ministers Meeting
  • The Indian delegation was laid by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar.
  • The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Tajikistan in Dushanbe.
  • At the meeting, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar mentioned the steps taken by GOI in the agriculture sector and for the welfare of farmers.
  • He mentioned that India developed innovative technologies for Agri and allied sectors.
  • The innovative technologies have been implemented into the lands to empower rural youth, farmers and farm women.
  • He also mentioned that during the pandemic, India’s Agri sector performed well. India’s food production has increased along with the export sector.
  • He mentioned that India is taking efforts to attain sustainable development goals to end hunger, achieve food security and nutrition.
  • India has set the goal to double farmer’s income by 2022 and thus has launched various initiatives for the same.
  • The farmers and Agri experts are being made aware about optimal utilization of water resources, new infrastructure for irrigation, soil fertility with balanced use of fertilizers, farm to market connectivity, ICT in farming, organic farming etc.
