- The significance of the ‘Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam Scheme’ is to provide healthcare services at people’s doorstep.
- The scheme will help to eradicate the need for patients to visit hospitals and clinics to get treatment for non-communicable diseases.
- The state announced to allot Rs 258 crore for the scheme.
- Initially, the scheme will be launched in Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Tirunelveli, Coimbatore, Chennai, Salem and Madurai of the state.
- It will prove beneficial to 30 lakh families and a 1 crore population.
- During the 1st phase of the scheme, 1172 health sub-centre, 189 primary health centres and 50 community health centres will be established in 50 universal coverage blocks across the state. And by the end of 2021, the scheme will be extended to the entire state.
- Under the scheme, medication facilities will be also provided to the people at their homes.
- The scheme is applicable for those who are above 45 years of age.
