‘UNITE Aware’

Current Context: India and United Nations (UN) launched a tech platform named ‘UNITE Aware’. The ‘UNITE Aware’ platform will offer improved security and safety to the UN peacekeepers. These UN peacekeepers are performing tasks in complex and risky environments across the world.

• The platform was launched at the UN headquarters in the presence of Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
• The Indian side has contributed USD 1.64 million to UNITE Aware platform.
• The platform will provide information about terrain to the United Nations military personnel (Blue Helmets) in the line of duty. It will provide camp security for UN peacekeepers.
• The UNITE Aware platform is an awareness creation software on a situational basis. It provides a modern touch to the surveillance technology in a real time domain in order to boost security
• It will access live video and satellite imagery. It will also generate early warnings to the peacekeepers in case of volatile and critical circumstances
• It has the feature to record data on critical incidents and events and follow daily operational activities.
• Thus, with this platform, it is possible to visualize, coordinate and monitor the entire peacekeeping operation on a real-time basis
• The platform is developed by India in partnership with the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the Department of Operational Support.
