‘Uttarakhand Bhookamp Alert’—Mobile App

Current Context: The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami launched a mobile named ‘Uttarakhand Bhookamp Alert’.

• It is the first-of-its-kind earthquake early warning mobile app.
• The app is developed by IIT Roorkee and Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA).
• The app makes use of the Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) system. The EEW is based on real time approach and detects the onset of an earthquake situation.
• The app triggers warnings before the tremors take hold of an area.
• It also provides the location of the people who are struck inside any structure damaged after the earthquake.
• It provides the estimated time of arrival of the earthquake, its intensity at the tremor location in order to avoid damage to the life and property.
