Current Context: The Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of three projects at New Mangalore Port in Karnataka.

  • The projects include a truck parking terminal, modification of the U.S. Mallya Gate, and the newly built business development Centre which is to be dedicated to the nation.
  • The truck parking terminal will be built in the area of 17,000 sq meters at the cost of Rs. 1.9 crores.
  • It will be provided gatehouse, concrete pavement, restaurant, and dormitory at the project of Rs. 5 crores. It will be completed by 2022-23.
  • The U.S. Mallya Gate will be redeveloped at a cost of Rs. 3.22 crores. It will be completed by March 2022.
  • The Business Development Centre will grant the facilities for the EXIM trade fraternity under a single roof.
