Current Context: An implementing arrangement agreement was signed between India and Bhutan for the joint development of a small satellite.

  • The agreement was signed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Scientific Secretary, R Umamaheswaran, and the Department of Information Technology and Telecom (DITT) of Bhutan, Director, Jigme Tenzing.
  • The current agreement is the part of MoU signed between both nations for the purpose of peaceful uses of outer spaces.
  • Under the agreement, both the entities i.e. ISRO and DITT will develop joint satellites.
  • The agreement will help to enhance innovation in the space technology domain and will allow having technology transfer between both nations.
