Current Context: The Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah addressed the first-ever National Cooperative Conference (Sehkarita Sammelan).
National Cooperative Conference
  • The event was held at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
  • It was the country’s first such cooperative conference and was held with an aim to strengthen the Indian Cooperatives.
  • It was organised by IFFCO, National Cooperative Federation of India, Amul, Sahakar Bharti, NAFED, KRIBHCO, and all cooperatives together.
  • While addressing the event, he mentioned that GOI has set the goal to develop the Cooperative sector of the country and the roadmap for the same is framed.
  • He also mentioned the importance of cooperatives for the country as it can be led to a lot of development for the country at national as well as at the international level.
  • It will be the major entity contributing to make India a $5 trillion economy.
  • He assured that the current problems which are being faced by cooperatives like the taxation front will soon be resolved.
  • He highlighted that number of primary agriculture cooperatives (PACs) will be increased to three lakh in the next five years.
