Current Context: The researchers from the IIT Ropar, Kanpur, and the Faculty of Management Studies of Delhi University developed the living plant-based air purifier.
‘Ubreathe Life’—Plant based Smart Air Purifier
  • The name of the living plant-based air purifier is ‘Ubreathe Life’.
  • The ‘Ubreathe Life’ boost or amplifies the purification process of air in indoor areas like hospitals, schools, offices, or homes.
  • It is the world’s 1st smart air purifier or smart biofilter.
  • Its work principle depends on the air-purifying natural leafy plant. The leaves of the plant and the air comes in interaction or contact with each other and then the air goes to the soil-root space where pollutants are purified.
  • The ‘Ubreathe Life’ eliminates harmful elements, gaseous and biological contaminants by raising oxygen levels in the indoor space with the help of specific plants, UV disinfection, and a stack of pre-filter, charcoal filter, and HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter.
  • The specific plants in the product are peace lily, snake plant, spider plant, etc.
  • The product is developed by Urban Air Laboratory which is the startup company of IIT Ropar.
  • It is incubated at IIT Ropar, which is a designated iHub - AWaDH (Agriculture and Water Technology Development Hub) by the Department of Science and Technology.
