Current Context: The Ministerial meeting of the US-India Strategic Clean Energy Partnership (SCEP) was held in a virtual mode.

  • India was represented by Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri and the US was represented by U.S. Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm.
  • Both the dignitaries discussed progress and achievements made by both nations in various sectors.
  • They assured to cooperate in the energy sector by adding emerging fuels to the list of their cooperation.
  • Both the nations cooperate in the areas of power and energy efficiency, oil and gas, renewable energy, and sustainable growth.
  • And they have decided to add the 5th area to their cooperation i.e. the emerging fuels.
  • They decided to frame India-US Task Force which will look after building and executing cooperation in the biofuels sector.
  • They also announced renaming the Gas Task Force to India-US Low Emissions Gas Task Force. This task force will help to develop innovative projects to provide support to India’s vision of a gas-based economy.
