Current Context: The two long haul freight trains namely ‘Trishul’ and ‘Garuda’ were launched by the Indian Railways.

  • These long-haul freight trains are twice or multiple times longer than the normal freight trains.
  • They will help to solve the problem of capacity constraints in critical sections.
  • Both the long-haul freight trains have empty open wagons which can be used for loading coal meant for predominantly thermal power stations.
  • ‘Trishul’: It is the first long haul train of South Central Railway (SCR). It is comprised of 177 wagons. It is almost equivalent to three freight trains. It was launched from the Kondapalli station of the Vijayawada division to the Khurda division of the East Coast Railway.
  • ‘Garuda’: It was launched from Raichur of Guntakal division to Manuguru of Secunderabad division.
