Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Indian Space Association (ISpA) virtually.

  • He mentioned that through the ISpA, India will unite the space sector across the world.
  • The ISpA will prove a major platform to transform the space sector as it is based on 4 major pillars.
  • The reforms in the space sector are based on four pillars of: freedom of innovation in the private sector, government as an enabler role, youth for the future, and the space sector as the major tool for the development of people.
  • The founding members of ISpA are: Bharti Airtel, Larsen & Toubro, Nelco (Tata Group), OneWeb, Mapmyindia, Walchandnagar Industries, and Ananth Technology Limited.
  • Other core members of ISpA are: Godrej, Hughes India, Azista-BST Aerospace Private Limited, BEL, Centum Electronics, and Maxar India.
  • The ISpA is a premier industry association of companies associated with space and satellite. These companies are major entities in the Indian space industry.
  • Various policy advocacy activities will be conducted by the platform.
  • It will engage stakeholders in the Indian space domain, which will also include government and its agencies.
  • New appointed members of ISpA are: Jayant Patil (First Chairman), Rahul Vatts (Vice President) and Lt Gen. A.K. Bhatt (Retd.) (Director General).
