Current Context: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed 28th National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Foundation Day program via video conference.

• At the program, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and NHRC chairperson, Justice Arun Kumar Mishra were also present.
• The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India was constituted on 12 October 1993. It is a Statutory public body for the protection of human rights.
• It was constituted under the Protection of Human Rights Act 1993.
• At the program, PM highlighted the importance of the human rights of future generations.
• He mentioned that the Statutory public body takes action in case of human rights violations.
• It studies treaties and international instruments on human rights and suggests the GOI implement recommendations in an effective manner for the welfare of the public.
