Current Context: The Union Minister of Power & New and Renewable Energy, R K Singh, launched the Green Day Ahead Market (GDAM).
Green Day Ahead Market (GDAM)
  • The GDAM is the new market segment for renewable energy.
  • It will allow the electricity generation and distribution companies to trade in renewable energy in the day-ahead market.
  • India has become the only major electricity market in the world to launch the GDAM for renewable energy.
  • This will help to reduce the dependency on fossil fuel imported sources and bring energy transition.
  • It will result in the enhancement of the green market by providing a competitive price for the allied products of renewable energy.
  • It will allow the participants to trade in green energy in a transparent, flexible, competitive, and efficient manner.
  • The advantages of participating in the GDAM will be a reduction in curtailment of green power, it will open untapped renewable energy potential, and instant payment to RE generators i.e. on the day of delivery itself.
  • The nodal agency for the GDAM will be National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC), POSOCO.
