‘i-Drone’

Current Context: The ‘i-Drone’, which is the drone-based vaccine delivery model for Northeast states was launched.

• It was launched by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya.
• It is developed by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
• The ICMR partnered with IIT Kanpur to perform the initial study-like testing activities of the drone.
• The significance of ‘i-Drone’ is ‘ICMR’s Drone Response and Outreach in North East.’
• It will help to perform vaccine delivery in the hard-to-reach terrain regions in a safe and secure manner.
• It will help to enhance healthcare accessibility in the tough and hard-to-reach regions.
• At present, it will be utilized in Manipur, Nagaland, and the UT of Andaman and Nicobar Island.
