National Conference on ‘International Year of Fruits and Vegetables’

Current Context: The National Conference on ‘International Year of Fruits and Vegetables’ was addressed by Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar.

• It was organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization.
• The theme of the conference was: Awareness about the nutritional benefits of fruits and vegetables for a balanced and healthy diet and lifestyle.
• At the conference, Union Minister released operational guidelines for the Horticulture Cluster Development Programme.
• He highlighted the conference by mentioning the importance of fruits and vegetables in human nutrition content.
• He also mentioned maintaining food security and attaining SDG.
• The ministry identified 10 globally popular Exotic fruit crops to grant them commercial importance and 10 important Indigenous fruit crops enriched with high nutritional and nutraceutical properties.
