Current Context: The United Kingdom (UK) has unveiled a new 5-pound commemorative coin to honour the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi during this Diwali.

• It was unveiled by UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak. The final design of the coin was selected by him.
• This is the 1st time the country has released a coin on Mahatma Gandhi and it is the 1st time that Mahatma Gandhi is commemorated on an official UK coin.
• The designer of the coin is Heena Glover.
• The Lotus flower image is showcased on the coin.
• The quote ‘My life is my message’ goes with the coin and it is available in gold and silver forms.
