5th Indian Ocean Conference

Current Context: The 5th Indian Ocean Conference was addressed by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in Abu Dhabi.

• While addressing he highlighted the importance of respecting and facilitating freedom of navigation and overflight
• He also focussed on unimpeded commerce at the global level
• The theme of the conference was: ‘Indian Ocean: Ecology, Economy, Epidemic’
• He highlighted that India will give support to cover major areas of cooperation like maritime security, cyber security, climate action, vaccine collaboration, critical and emerging technologies, higher education, and resilient supply chains.
• It was organized by RSIS Singapore, Institute of National Security Studies, Sri Lanka, and the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research, UAE
