Current Context: The Union Minister for Heavy Industries Mahendra Nath Pandey dedicated India's first 'Coal To Methanol' (CTM) pilot plant to the country.
Coal To Methanol (CTM) Pilot Plant
  • It is developed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
  • And it is set up at BHEL’s Hyderabad unit.
  • The CTM has a capacity of 0.25 TPD (tonnes per day).
  • It will produce methanol from high-ash Indian coal. It will have a purity of 99%.
  • This is the first of its kind technology demonstration in the country to convert high ash contained coal into methanol through a gasification route.
