Current Context: India and Sri Lanka have entered into an agreement to redevelop the strategic World War II-era oil tank farm in the island nation's eastern port district of Trincomalee.

  • This is the bilateral economic and energy partnership between both the countries.
  • They will redevelop the strategic Trincomalee Oil Tank Complex, which is also known as Trinco Oil Tank Farm.
  • Due to this agreement, 85 of the 99 tanks will now be under the Sri Lankan control which were initially under India’s control.
