Current Context: EU chief Ursula von der leyen was recently in India to talk about the proposed FTA.

India and the European Union started FTA negotiations back in 2013, however, no agreement could be reached and even the early harvest arrangement was not made. In June this year, the FTA would be discussed as a delegation would visit India.
With the EU Chief, in India last week, the talks were on a progressive note and it is being expected that the FTA might be concluded by the end of 2023. The FTA would pave the way for duty-free trade with the 27 block organization.
India currently has an early harvest arrangement with CANADA and the Justin Trudeau Administration is also pursuing an FTA with India looking at the large consumer market that India has to offer.
