‘Prakriti’ & Green Initiatives on Plastic Waste Management

Current Context: Shri Bhupender Yadav (Union Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change) launched ‘Prakriti’ and Green Initiatives for Effective Plastic Waste Management.

• Prakriti is a mascot to spread awareness among the masses to adopt small changes in lifestyle for a better environment.
• The event also shared various initiatives taken by MOEFCC and Central Pollution Control Board for effective plastic waste management in the country.
• To tackle the problem of plastic waste India has pledged to phase out Single-Use Plastics (SUPs) by 2022.
• During the event following green initiatives for plastic waste management were launched:-
• National Dashboard on Elimination of Single-Use Plastic and Plastic Waste Management
• Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Portal for Plastic Packaging
• Mobile App for Single-Use Plastics Grievance Redressal
• Monitoring module for SUP
• Industrial production of Graphene from Waste Plastic
