  • Banking and Finance
    • The central government has re-nominated Satish Kashinath Marathe, Swaminathan Gurumurthy, Revathy Iyer, and Sachin Chaturvedi as part-time, non-official directors on the central board of the Reserve Bank of India.
    • State Bank of India launched its first state-of-the-art dedicated branch for start-ups in the country to facilitate and support them. SBI chairman Dinesh Khara launched the branch located in Koramangala, which is alongside neighboring HSR layout and Indiranagar which are the biggest start-up hubs in the city.
    • On the occasion of 75 years of independence as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav Karnataka bank launched a new term deposit scheme called KBL Amrit Samriddhi under ACC and Fixed Deposit category. The bank will offer a 6.10% per annum interest rate on the deposit scheme with a tenure of 75 weeks (525 days).
  • Appointments
    • Kenya's Deputy President William Ruto has been elected as the country's next President.
    • UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appoints India's Electronics and Information Technology secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma to a panel of eminent experts on internet governance. Internet pioneer Vint Cerf and Nobel prize-winning journalist Maria Reesa were also appointed to the 10-member Internet Governance Forum (IGF) leadership panel.
    • Simon Stiell, Grenada's former minister of climate resilience appointed as the new Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). He will succeed Patricia Espinosa of Mexico.
    • Mastercard signs four badminton players Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Shrikanth, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty as the brand ambassador of Mastercard in India. The badminton stars will be part of its 'Team Cashless India' campaign which works with merchants and cardholders to create awareness of the safety, and security of digital payments.

  • State News
    • Government appoints 11 additional judges in Punjab and Haryana high court. The new judges are Nidhi Gupta, Sanjay Vashisth, Tribhuvan Dahiya, Namit Kumar, Harkesh Manuja, Aman Chaudhary, Naresh Singh, Harsh Bunger, Jagmohan Bansal, Deepak Manchanda, and Alok Jain. The Punjab and Haryana High Court are currently functioning with just 46 judges against the sanctioned strength of 85 with around a dozen of the 46 judges set to retire in the next two years.
    • Maharashtra government as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav announced free travel in state buses for people above 75 years of age. The cabinet also decided to offer Rs 10 lakh insurance protection to 'Govinda' troops who form human pyramids during the Gokulashtami festival.
  • National News
    • Asia's largest Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant has begun its commercial operations in Sangrur, Punjab. A formal announcement about commissioning of the Asia’s Largest Compressed Biogas Plant was confirmed by the New and Renewable Energy Minister Aman Arora on 12th August 2022.
    • Researchers in Hyderabad have successfully 3D-printed an artificial cornea (3D-printed Human Cornea) and placed it in a rabbit eye for the first time ever in India.
    • Union Minister of Earth Sciences, Jitendra Singh has launched India’s first saline water lantern, ‘Roshini’, which uses seawater to power Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps.
    • President Droupadi Murmu approved 107 gallantry awards to armed forces and CAPF personnel. The awards include three Kirti Chakra, 13 Shaurya Chakras, two bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry), 81 Sena Medals(gallantry), one Nao Sena Medal (gallantry), and seven Vayu Sena medals (gallantry).
  • Science and Technology
    • Researchers from LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), India Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H), and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) have developed a 3D printed cornea from the human donor corneal tissue. For the first time, Indian researchers have successfully 3D-printed an artificial cornea and transplanted it into a rabbit eye.
