  • Apps and Portals:
    • The Union Government has launched Rashtriya Puruskar Portal to bring together all the awards of the various Ministries, Departments, and agencies of the government under one platform. This has been done to ensure transparency and public partnership.
  • National News
    • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is on his first ever official visit to South America, unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Paraguay and appreciated the Asuncion Municipality's decision to locate it at the prominent waterfront of the city.
    • Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation(IRCTC) to operate Bharat Gaurav Train on the Ramayana circuit which will run on August 24. The train will go from Ayodhya to Janakpur in Nepal. During the journey, passengers will be taken to various religious and heritage sites of India like Ayodhya, Janakpur, Sitamarhi, Kashi, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Nashik, Hampi, Rameshwaram, Kanchipuram, and Bhadrachalam. The duration of the journey has increased from 18 days to 20 days.
    • Bihar's Mithila Makhana has been given a Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the government of India. This is the fifth product from Bihar which is given the GI tag. Bhagalpur's Jardalu Mango, Katarni Dhaan (rice), Nawada's Magahi Paan, and Muzaffarpur's Shahi Litchi have got GI tags prior to this.

  • State News
    • Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the government will establish a cyber intelligence unit. This move is taken because cyber crimes have increased after the coronavirus pandemic, as more people started using online modes for financial transactions.
    • Rajasthan government is working on strategies to increase farmers' income. The steps taken by the government include providing seeds of improved varieties at an affordable rate to increase the productivity and income of the farmer. In order to improve farming techniques, the government is holding campaigns and deliberations with farmers in every corner of the state. The agriculture and allied sector contribute over 25 percent to the gross domestic product of the state.

    • Egypt to buy 180,000 tonnes of wheat at $400 per tonne from India. Egypt is the world's biggest importer of wheat. Egypt contracted to buy 180,000 tonnes of wheat from India in June.
    • India and Iran signed a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) mutually recognizing certificates of competency in unlimited voyages of seafarers from both nations. The signing of the MoU aims to smoothen the movement of seafarers from both nations. Union minister of ports, shipping, and waterways Sarbananda Sonowal is on a four-day visit to Iran to review the progress on the development of the Shahid Beheshti terminal of Chabahar Port.

    • RBL bank's board has approved raising up to Rs 3000 crore to fund their business growth. The fundraising will be subjected to the approval of shareholders. The bank's board has also cleared the appointment of two independent directors Gopal Jain, Managing Partner and Founder of Gaja Capital, and Sivakumar Gopalan, faculty of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of IIT Bombay.
    • HDFC EGRO launches India's first electronic vehicle ecosystem, "All things EV". HDFC aims to fulfill the needs of the existing and potential Electric Vehicles or EV users.
  • Obituaries
    • Veteran filmmaker Abdul Gaffar Nadiadwala passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of 91. Abdul Gaffar started his film production and media entertainment company in 1931 and has backed over 50 Hindi films including the 1965 film Mahabharat and hit comedies in the 2000s such as Hera Pheri and Welcome.

    • 17-year-old Haryana wrestler Antim Panghal has become the first Indian woman wrestler to win the Gold medal at Under-20 World Wrestling Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria. She scored an 8-0 win over Atlyn Shagayeva of Kazakhstan in the 53kg category to achieve this feat.
