- Union Minister of State of Science and Technology, Earth Science Jitendra Singh unveiled www.swachhsagar.org to boost the ongoing pan-India Coastal Clean-Up campaign. The Coastal Clean-Up Campaign is a 75 days exercise.
- Dr. Jitendra Singh also launched the campaign logo 'Vasuki' dedicated to the youth of the country as the school students are joining the coastal and beach cleaning facilities.
- The campaign is designated on the model of the "whole of the government" approach. Apart from executing Ministries of Earth Science, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Jal Shakti, Health and Family Welfare, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, External Affairs and Information and Broadcasting will also participate in the campaign.
- More than 52000 volunteers from 24 states have registered for the 75-day long campaign. The campaign was launched on July 5, 2000, to raise awareness about "Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar". The campaign will conclude on September 17, the International Coastal Clean-Up Day.
