Current Context: Haryana government purchased 5 lakh tablets for students in government schools.
Haryana government to provide 5 lakh tablets to students
  • The tablets will be provided to government school students studying in classes 10 to 12. A total expenditure of Rs 620 crore has been incurred on the purchase of tablets.
  • The students will be provided with a free internet facility of 2 GB per day. The tender for the purchase of tablets was floated by Haryana's Directorate of Supplies and Disposals, and the company from which the tablet was purchased was chosen through a transparent process.
  • The specifications were recommended by a committee of technical experts from the IT Cell of the Department of School Education, Haryana, comprising the Joint Director (IT), Deputy Director (IT), and programmers.
  • The specifications were approved by the Administrative Secretary of the School Education Department. Personalized and Adaptive Learning (PAL) software has been provided on the tablet for subjects such as English, Hindi, and Social Science.
  • To prevent misuse of tablets by children the tablet has an inbuilt mechanism so that children will use it for only the intended purpose.
