Indian Army signs MoU with DFI to develop high impact drones

Current Context: Indian Army's Design Bureau signs MoU with the Drone Federation of India (DFI) to develop drones.

• The MoU was signed to jointly promote research, development, joint R&D, testing, and manufacturing of drones, counter-drones and associated technologies to be used in the force's operations.
• Indian Army together with DFI launched a program called 'Him Drone-A-Thon' to explore drone applications in logistics/load carrying at a high altitude of 13,200 ft above mean sea level (AMSL), for autonomous surveillance, search and rescue (between 9,000 to 13,000 ft AMSL) along the Northern and Western borders with China and Pakistan.
• The MoU signed between the Indian Army's Design Bureau and DFI will jointly work to develop niche technology and products for the Indian Army. The army is also looking to acquire Micro-Nano drones for room intervention and fighting in built-up areas.
• They will collaborate on the road map for drones, counter-drone, and allied technologies in the Indian Army to promote research, development, testing, and manufacturing of drones and associated technologies by the provision of testing sites to enable the designing, prototyping, testing, manufacturing of drones and its components.
