Current Context: Indian Navy and ISROs Space Applications Centre (SAC) in Ahmedabad signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on data sharing and cooperation in satellite-based naval applications.

  • With this agreement both the organizations will have a common platform for mutual cooperation, and the scientific advancements by SAC will help Indian Navy's effort to protect countries' maritime interests.
  • The area of cooperation includes sharing of non-confidential observational data, exploitation of SAC's weather products, and processing of satellite data towards the development of new tools, calibration, and validation of ocean models.
  • The MoU was signed by the Indian Navy and SAC to further meaningful interactions and professional exchanges in the future.
  • This MoU is an extension of the MoU signed earlier in 2017 and will further collaboration between the two organizations.
