- The exercise will consist of a number of complex drills, which aims to enhance understanding, cooperation, and interoperability between India and US armies.
- The exercise comes against the backdrop of rapidly changing situations in the Indo-Pacific. The last edition of exercise Yudh Abhyas was held in October 2021 in Alaska, US.
- India- US relations have improved since 2016 when the US designated India as a "Major Defence Partner". Since then the two countries have signed various major defence and security pacts.
- Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement(LEMOA) was signed by India and US in 2016, which allows both the militaries to use each other's base for repair and replenishment of supplies and provide deeper cooperation.
- Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) was signed by both nations in 2018 which allows interoperability between the two militaries and provides for the sale of high-end technology from the US to India.
- To further boost bilateral defence ties, the US and India 2020 signed Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA).
