Current Context: Maharashtra government starts a free travel scheme in MSRTC buses for those above 75 years.

  • The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will provide free travel for people above the age of 75 years in its buses.
  • About 1.5 lakh senior citizens of the state will get the benefit of a free travel scheme by State transport bus on the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav of the country. The citizens above the age of 65 and 75 will get a 50% rebate on ticket fares on selected routes and selected types of buses operated by the MSRTC.
  • The concession can be availed by showing identity documents like Aadhar Card, PAN card, Driving licence, Voter's Card, etc. The facility is not available for MSRTCs city buses and will be for journeys within state limits.
  • The new facility was announced by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the state assembly. MSRTC has a fleet of more than 16,000 buses.
