- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Punjab Pollution Control Board and National Cadet Corps (NCC), under which the service of NCC cadets will be utilized to create awareness against single-use plastics.
- The MoU was signed by Environment Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, NCC Additional Directorate (Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh) Major General Rajiv Chhibber, Punjab Pollution Control Board Member Secretary Krunesh Garg at the NCC headquarters in Chandigarh.
- This initiative is part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's campaign against single-use plastic launched statewide on August 5. Around 1 lakh NCC cadets will participate in the initiative.
- The environment department will launch an awareness program at several places in districts, villages, and sub-division towns to avoid the use of plastic and to take on alternatives.
- Cadets of various NCC units, government officers, and employees will provide assistance to make the state free of single-use plastics.
