- Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) enrolled over 79 lakh children in the age group of 0-5 years for four months (April to July) this year. This is part of the effort to reach out to more children in the age group of 0-5 years under the Bal Aadhaar initiative to help parents and children avail the benefits.
- Children in the age group of 0-5 years are issued Bal Aadhaar. As of March 31, 2022, 2.64 crore children of the age group 0-5 years have Bal Aadhaar. This has increased to 3.43 crore by the end of July 2022.
- In states like Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, enrolments of children in the age group of 0-5 have covered more than 70 percent of the targeted age group.
- Registration of children in the age group of 0-5 years has increased in several states and UTs including Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Mizoram, Andhra Pradesh, and Lakshadweep. At present Aadhaar saturation is around 94 percent and among adults, it is almost 100 percent.
- Biometric data are not collected for Aadhaar enrolment of children in the age group of 0-5 years. Bal Aadhar is issued in blue colour to differentiate it from normal Aadhar and is valid till the child attains the age of 5 years. On attaining the age of 5 years the child needs to furnish his or her biometrics at Aadhaar Seva Kendra to complete the mandatory biometric update.
