- The UK has become the world's first country to approve a COVID-19 vaccine for both the Omicron variant and the original coronavirus strain. The 'bivalent' vaccine has been made by US drugmaker Moderna.

- State Bank of India launched a new term deposit scheme "Utsav Deposit" in honour of the nation's 76th Independence day. The fixed deposit will offer an interest rate of 6.1 percent effective from August 15, 2022. This offer has a validity of 75 days which is till October 30, 2022.

- India hands over Dornier maritime surveillance aircraft to Sri Lankan Navy. Indian gift for Dornier was in response to a request from the Sri Lankan government for two Dornier Reconnaissance Aircraft in 2018 to enhance the maritime surveillance capabilities of Sri Lanka. Vice Chief of Indian Navy S.N Ghormade along with Indian High Commissioner in Colombo Gopal Baglay handed over the maritime surveillance aircraft to the Sri Lankan Navy at the Sri Lankan Air Force base in Katunayake.

- 13th edition of Indian Film Festival at Melbourne, Australia, award function was held at Palais Theatre in Australia. The event was hosted by actor Rithvik Dhanjani. Ranveer Singh received the best actor male award for his performance in the film '83' and Shefali Shah bagged the best actor female award for the film 'Jalsa'.

- FIFA suspended the All India Football Federation (AIFF) due to influence from third parties. With the suspension, the U-17 Women's World Cup which was scheduled to be held in India from October 11-30 cannot be held in the country as planned.

- Environment minister Bhupendra Yadav announced India has added 11 more wetlands to the list of Ramsar sites, thus bringing the total tally to 75 sites. Out of the 11 new sites, four are in Tamil Nadu, three in Odisha, two in Jammu and Kashmir, and one each in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. During this year a total of 28 sites have been declared Ramsar sites. Tamil Nadu has a maximum number of Ramsar sites at 14 followed by Uttar Pradesh which has 10 sites on the list.
- South East Central Railway (SECR) test runs its longest freight train Super Vasuki on August 15 as part of Azadi ka Amrita Mahotsav celebrations. The 3.5 km long train with 295 loaded wagons and powered by five locos carried a total trailing load of about 27,000 tonnes of coal. This is the highest fuel transportation ever carried by Indian Railway in a single train arrangement.
- The Indian national flag was unfurled 30 km above Earth by Space Kidz India as the country marked its 75 years of Independence. Space Kidz India, an organization that is known for promoting space science to children sent the Indian tricolor to the edge of space and about 30 kilometers above the planet earth. It also describes itself as an aerospace organization creating young scientists for the country.

- Adani Logistics signed a definitive agreement to acquire ICD Tumb (Vapi) for Rs 835 crore from Navkar Corporation. Adani Logistics is a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd.
