Current Context: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted the 10th Military Search and Rescue Exercise SAREX-22 in Chennai.

  • It is a biennial exercise which is hosted by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Indian Search and Rescue Region (ISRR).
  • The theme of SAREX-22 was- "Capacity Building Towards Marine Passenger Safety".
  • It was a two-day exercise that was conducted under the supervision of the National Maritime Search and Rescue Board (MNSARB).
  • Overall 51 participants took part in the Exercise of which 24 were foreign representatives from 16 countries.
  • The primary objective of the Exercise was to demonstrate the SOPs and best practices used during the execution of a Mass Rescue Operation.
