Current Context: Delhi Police has become the first police force in the country to make the collection of Forensic Evidence mandatory in crimes punishable by more than six years.

  • The Order was issued by the Delhi Police Commissioner, Sanjay Arora.
  • The Order states the allotment of one Forensic Mobile Van in each district for providing scientific and forensic assistance.
  • Forensic evidence has been mandatory for every crime which is punishable by more than 6 years.
  • Any evidence which is gathered and analyzed scientifically is termed Forensic Evidence. Eg. fingerprint, DNA profiling, etc.
  • Note: Since Delhi is a Union Territory, the Law and Order and hence the Police are under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
