Cybercrime against Women up 28% since 2019

Current Context: As per the data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), cybercrime against women has risen up to 28% since 2019.

  • Of the total incidents of cybercrime in 2021, 20.2% were reported against women.
  • As far as Delhi is concerned, the national capital in 2021 witnessed a 111% increase in cybercrime as compared to the previous year, according to the NCRB.
  • Cybercrime against women primarily includes instances of cyber pornography, posting/ publishing of obscene sexual materials, cyber stalking, bullying, defamation, morphing, and the creation of fake profiles.
  • The report also mentioned that the conviction rate with respect to cybercrime against women has jumped three times since 2019.
  • The headquarters of the NCRB is in New Delhi and it comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
