- India is the largest producer and consumer of milk in the world. It produces around 210 million tonnes of milk per year.
- A few indigenous examples of cow breeds include Gir, Sahiwal, Rathi, Kankrej, Tharparker, etc. Examples of indigenous buffalo breeds are Banni, Murrah, Mehsana, Jafrabadi, Nili Ravi, Pandharpuri, etc.
