Current Context: The three-day National Conference of State Tourism Ministers began in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh.

  • The conference aims to bring diverse perspectives and viewpoints from all the States and UTs of India on tourism development and to create a direct dialogue with the States on, policies, and schemes.
  • The National Conference also aims to be a platform for sharing successful projects, best practices, and tourism product opportunities.
  • The 3-day conference is being chaired by the Minister of Tourism, G Kishan Reddy.
  • At the conference, Reddy iterated that the Ministry of Tourism has undertaken various initiatives and taken a development strategy that focuses on improving connectivity via rail, road, and air strengthening the tourism infrastructure, streamlining branding and promotion, and showcasing India’s culture and heritage.
  • He also said that the assistance being provided to the tourism sector post-COVID19 was extended further to March 2023.
